I thought I'd put this here for general out of character chat and feedback on this game. The first session seemed to go well, the image of Firetop dangling from the rail of the ship after her second fumbled die roll will live in my memory for some time. Smile
So, for that matter, will the image of a Kuo-Toa running in panic from the Macho Monk after that Axe Kick.

Ok, my feedback. I thought it was a good session myself. Good to see the macho monk can hold his own, with no weapons or armour, etc Smile (although having to maybe rely on the sling bullet to see). Not gloating, however, but Firetop's unfortunate start was something to laugh at, haha. Just bad luck, Smile. Be my turn soon, haha

Oh yeah, did we get the final count of pointed weaponry that missed it's intended target and landed on the side?!?

I see the Narhish Martial Art post. I shall assume that it may be aimed for Rhion and will class him as a practioner of Tak'honto Smile

That's right. All I've done is rename TaeKwonDo and give it a history that fits in with the setting, but I thought it might be useful to actually work out what manouvers it makes available to you. It's not necessarily the only martial art in the setting, but any others will be created either when a Player wants a new one or I need one for an NPC.
Not wanting to give too much away regarding future scenarios but I'm probably going to need a Githzerai martial art. Cool

OOooo. I shall be interested in seeing that Smile Any ideas on what MA you're going to base it on, (if any?) Smile I feel there will be a tough match for Rhion. Although since when will something like this stop this monk? lol

I'll also print out the Tak'Honto details for future sessions Smile

PostPosted: 11/Aug/2005 - 12:14 pm    Post subject: Inland Sea Martial Arts Reply with quote

The list of martial arts in the Inland Sea region is growing rapidly, although not all of these have been fully written up yet the area currently has...

  • Tak'Honto (AKA Narhish Boxing)
  • Veredian Fencing
  • Gohali Wrestling
  • Gohali Boxing
  • Gohali Heroic Combat (AKA Heroism)
  • Githzerei Combat Style, as yet unnamed
  • An unspecified Non-Human Martial Art to be revealed as the plot demands.

I may add more, including a Mariner Martial Art, but I'm not sure yet.
It's not to difficult to figure out that the combat arts are going to be a big deal in this campaign, with weapon arts common throughout the kingdoms in addition to the unarmed type.

As I'm building up information of the Inland Sea Iim still looking for input from players as to what they'd like to see. I'm also compiling it (slowly) into a PDF that I'll post on here at some time.

I'd like to add a comment on the possible martial art for the Githzerai.

I think it could be modelled on the Karate list with a few minor changes. I believe that karate is very much similar to Tae Kwon Do (again with the odd few differences, and hence Tae Kwon Do being called Korean Karate)... Anyway.....

I think it would be an excellent match for practitioners of Tak'Honto Smile Kinda like a "rival", as it were.

That idea certainly has merit, but the Githzerai aren't the only possible rival for practitioners of Tak'Honto. There are two racial arts to be encountered (I'll build 'em when the scenarios get written) and all those Gohali wrestlers and boxers.

Karate-based Githzerai combat is a still good idea though.

I know this may be something that i've already mentioned but has re-materialised in my thoughts for Rhion and other Tak'Honto practictioners.

It be cool to have certain katas to give some bonuses as long as the practictioner spends uninterrupted time performing it. The Way of the Samurai Rokugan supplement has quite a few ideas and samples of katas.

It'd just give any martial artists a nice touch to their abilities and slight edge (not that Rhion REALLY needs it anyway Twisted Evil) *que earth elemental fights*

The Kata, Kata Lore, Kata Mastery and Kata Specialist Feats from Blood & Fists provide some bonuses to Martial Artists allready, and if combined with the Combination Feat you get extra bonuses on particular combos.

Eg. A "Combination (Sweep Kick/Axe Kick)" Feat would grant +2 To-Hit and Damage on the Axe Kick whenever it was performed after a Sweep Kick in this fashion. Could be very nasty! Of course "Combination (Sweep Kick/Stamp Kick)" would be the way to go for a VERY nasty person. Twisted Evil

I think the next feat i will choose will have to be Combination now that he has a couple of techniques under his belt, as it were. The Leg Sweep/Axe Kick does indeed sound an excellent and effective combination

TBH the way things are going though, by the time Rhion gets to the second technique of the combination, the "victim" we shall call them would already be embedded in the man-shaped hole on the ground, haha. Unless a very mean demon makes itself known in the world, which could then be worrying Smile

As you may have noticed, the Jounal's filling again, and hopefully I'll keep the content quality up this time. I'm still interested to know what directions people would like the campaign to take.

  • The Velisten's Journal thread will be continuing, but not until you've gained a couple of levels and I have time to determine what the riddles point to.
  • Compa of Dansat Docks may well have more work for you, if you're interested.
  • I've had some thoughts about integrating the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil into the Inland Sea.

There are also a couple fo off-shoots in existence, one run by me (for Linda & Andrea) and the other by Linda (for Myself and Perry) that could be used to add detail to the setting or even to flesh out the main plotlines.

Any thought son this?

OK. Since we've lost a player down the back of the sofa, gained another one (for what it's worth), killed a character and finally have another unreliable git saying he wants to play I nede to re-think this campaign. Our options are...

  • Leave Titania dead and advertise for players to bring us up to strength.
  • Reincarnate Titania and advertise for one or two players to bring us to strength.
  • Reincarnate Titania and allow Rae to play, possibly advertising for 1 or 2 extra players.
  • Leave Titania dead, dump the Ranger and advertise for all-new players to join Firetop.

Obviously the last option is fairly extreme, but I thought I'd be fairly complete and anyway Drutt, you're the only member of the group that reads these.

To recap where we stand:
The Party(!?) is in the village of Arlen's Crossing which lies on the route from Dansat to the parent Kingdom of Vered. Currently the party consists of Firetop (Dwarven Cleric of Aphrodite, Lvl3), Freya (Elven Ranger Lvl2) and the corpse of Titania (formerly an Elven Sorceress Lvl 3, Lvl2 if she comes back). They are supposed to be heading to Grollek's Grove a trading village where there is a problem to be solved. They have just slain a Wyvern on behalf of the locals (losing Titania in the process) and Firetop & Titania are contemplating their next move. Despite their youth and inexperience, Firetop is actually of an equal ecclesiastical rank to those in the village (though of a different faith) and so they can't rely on a ranking churchman to give them help with the corpse.
In Grollek's Grove they expect to find Richard Arien, the representative of Baron Beval, who is empowered to deliver a reward of several thousand gps to a party who can identify and dispell the curse which affects the nearby Morrick Mansion and give the baron some peace regarding the death of his son.

Suggestion, thoughts, or offers to play will be gratefully recieved but since one of the players reads these boards often, keep anything that I might want to use in game to PMs please.
Smile

Just to make it clear: Whatever we do I want to get back to running this regularly, which means that I will expect players to actually bloody turn up!

I just wanted to apologise for the lack of updates on the journal, and make it clear that the game is (slowly) progressing even though i haven't been writing it up.
Embarassed

At the moment the party are runing the Forge of Fury still, en route to the village in Morrick's Mansion. I'm also running The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (converted from 1st Ed to 3e) for a second group of PCs when Eleanor isn't available. That's only just started but is going well so far.

On a more wide ranging point, I am continuing work on merging the Inland Sea into Fosforos and it's going well. Soon I shall rule the world!... I mean, have an integrated campaign setting.

Play has been continuing in the Fosforos (formerly Inland sea) Campaign, which now has three distinct parties. I want to get back to this campaign journal, but it will require me typing up two "catch up" posts (one of which starting a new thread for Saltmarsh) and Linda to write a third, also for a new thread.
Net result: it'll be here eventually but don't hold your collective breath. Smile
